19.12.18 Christmas Dinner

19th December 2018 By tessafenoughty

Michelle and her team pulled off another amazing feast on Wednesday.  We had 100 very hungry children, staff, parents, family and friends, as well as some VIPs (the Bishop of Durham and his parliamentary assistant Lori), all keen to tuck into a tradition Christmas meal, and they were not disappointed! The Bishop of Durham opened proceedings with grace, followed by revealing the winning design for his official annual Christmas card. During the dinner, our enterprising children ran two stalls in aid of our Tanzanian Fundraising Project.  Bertie made and sold pom-poms and Esme made and sold Tanzanian accessories including bags, ties and hair bobbles.

7th December 2018 By tessafenoughty

  • Monday – dress rehearsal at the village hall 1pm. If you have been asked to bring in items of clothing for your costume – please don’t forget!  The Teesdale Mercury reporter is coming to take photos at 2pm.
  • Tuesday – Blackbirds are taking part in a Sports Festival at Staindrop School, 12.30pm – 2.30pm. They need their school PE kit as well as warm clothing (tracksuit bottoms, sweatshirt) as some activities may be outside.  They will be transported by a TCR minibus and driver.
  • Wednesday – Owls are taking part in a Multi-skills Festival at the Alun Armstrong Centre at Shildon. Please can you ensure that your child has warm clothing for this event. The centre can be very cold, even though it is inside, so we suggest that pupils bring tracksuit bottoms/coats. Ms Fenoughty will transport the children in the Staindrop mini-bus.

07.12.18 Posada visits Butterknowle

7th December 2018 By tessafenoughty

On Monday, Reverend Brian Whitley visited school to tell us about an exciting Christmas tradition called the’ Posada.’ The Posada is a Mexican tradition where young people dress up as Mary and Joseph then travel from house to house asking for a room for the night. Modern day Posada uses nativity figures that travel from home to home where the host celebrates with their visitors that night.

Our Posada figures of Mary and Joseph, an advent calendar, some candles and a small book to record the visit are travelling around Butterknowle.  Each night one of our pupils takes the Posada home with them.

So far, the Posada has visited Mason’s house where they had tea then watched a bit of TV before continuing on their journey. At Ethan’s house, Mary and Joseph met Arthur the dog, had pasta for tea, and then played with Jingles the Elf. I wonder who will be the next host …?

06.12.18 Do you want a community gym at Staindrop School?

6th December 2018 By tessafenoughty

MESSAGE TO PARENTS AND THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

We would appreciate it if you could take the time to complete a survey which go towards a project the Academy are working on.

The project is to secure funding to refurbish and fully equip one of our larger classrooms with gym equipment.  This would then become a Community Gym which will be used by our students and the public.  The Community Gym would be led by a group of volunteers including members of the Academy.

This questionnaire has been designed to secure vital information around its potential use, price ranges and interest in being part of the group to lead/volunteer within the gym.

Please go to the following link to complete the questionnaire.  We would appreciate it if you could share this link with any friends and family who live in the area.  The more responses we get the better chance we have of securing the funding.
